On Saturday, February 8th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our African American History Month Celebrations with the African Rhythms Band in Tribute to Randy Weston led by saxophonist T.K. Blue, with bassist Alex Blake, African percussionist Neil Clarke and pianist Sharp Radway.

It’s been well over a year since the Great Randy Weston left the planet. He left a wealth of music and an incredible group of musicians who he brought together and who stayed together for several decades. This Saturday, they will come together, once again, in his honor.

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 9 and 10: 30 pm, saxophonist/composer and bandleader TK Blue will present another Tribute to the great Randy Weston with pianist Sharp Radway, bassist Alex Blake and drummer Vince Ector. The entire 2018-2019 season has been dedicated to Randy Weston in honor of the contributions he made to this Music of the Spirit and his support of what we have been doing for 23 years at Sistas’ Place. TK Blue has written an original suite for Baba Randy Weston that will be played in public for the first time on Saturday and which he will go into the studio the next day to record. This promises to be another historical event! Don’t Miss It!

On Saturday, April 9th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival@Sistas’ Place with a Tribute to the great Dr. Randy Weston featuring T.K. Blue, Alex Blake, Sharp Radway, and Baba Neil Clarke. The maestro’s Arrival Day is April 6th and we want to honor him in his community of Bedford Stuyvesant. Need we say more?

On Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 9 and 10:30pm, saxophonist/composer/bandleader TK Blue, will present a CD Release event for his recording, Amour. The group will feature pianist Amina Figarova, bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer George Coleman Jr.

T.K. Blue has been the music director with the great Randy Weston for many years. This Saturday he will be leading his own ensemble in celebration of his soon to be released CD. For the folks who show up, there will be some advanced copies available.

Saturday, February 13, 2016 we present the second of a series of African American History Month Celebrations of the art form with educator/bandleader/saxophonist T. K. Blue along with vocalist Fay Victor, pianist Sharp Radway, bassist Hill Greene and  drummer Dwayne “Cook” Broadnax in a tribute to the great Jimmy Scott.

Jimmy Scott, born July 17,1925, a year before Carter G. Woodson created the first so-called Negro History Week Celebration, is, I’m sure, exactly what Mr. Woodson had in mind when he proactively set aside this time so our contributions to the world could be acknowledged. Jimmy Scott was a great vocalist who fortunately lived 88 years on this planet and who did create a body of work that the group led by T. K. Blue can access.

Mr. Scott, however, lived many of those years in obscurity. It wasn’t until the latter part of his life that he received the recognition he so richly deserved and our great fortune is that bassist Hillard Greene, who was the music director for the last 20 years of Mr. Scott’s life, is a member of TK’s band. Jimmy Scott’s voice and style has often been compared to that of Billie Holiday’s so it should come as no surprise that Fay Victor will be singing. It will be your loss if you don’t make this event because T. K. Blue always comes to play and this is an extraordinary band.

This event is in memory of our Sista Viola and honoring our Brother Ahned Abdullah for the jazz institution they led in building for a quarter century. This event is at Bed-Stuy Restoration Corp. and is $35; cash preferred.

MC Ahmed Abdullah hosts an amazing list of jazz musicians including Reggie Woods, T.K.
