Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, is in its 24th season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, January 11th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we present saxophonist/ composer/ bandleader, Reggie Woods, along with trumpeter Riley Mullins, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Russell Carter. Reggie Woods, a regular in our roster of revolving artists, has put together a band of Sistas’ Place All-Stars who individually make sparks fly and who collectively light up the night. On Saturday, May 19th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Sistas’ Place Jazz Festival with pianist/composer/bandleader Sharp Radway performing original music composed for Malcolm X with a great band consisting of trumpeter Duane Eubanks, saxophonist Reggie Woods, bassist Endea Owens, and drummer Darryl Green.

May 19th is the Arrival Day, aka birthday, of one of the most powerful leaders of African American people, and therefore humanity, Malcolm X. Sharp Radway is a brilliant composer of this Music of the Spirit and he has created something special for this great leader. The compositions he will be performing with this group, for the most part, will be heard for the first time.

On Saturday, August 20th we present the Reggie Woods Band featuring Reggie Woods (Bandleader & Sax), Anthony Wonsey (Piano), Jason Patterson (Drums), Jerry Brooks (Bass), Steve Horton (Guitar), Gil Defay (Trumpet), Latrice Cherry (Vocals), Shakim (Vocals), RJ Woods (Vocals), and Drew Woods (Rapper). On Saturday, October 8th we continue our 2022-23 season with a Tribute to Thelonious Monk featuring the Sharp Radway Quintet: Reggie Woods on woodwinds, Alex Blake on bass, Baba Neil Clarke on African percussion, Camille Gaynor Jones on multi-percussion and the leader on piano. October 10, 2022, is the 105th Arrival Day aka Birthday of Thelonious Monk. Sharp Radway has assembled a great band to pay tribute to the Master.

On Saturday, May 6th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue the Central Brooklyn Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Festival at Sistas’ Place with the Robert Rutledge Band featuring saxophonist Reggie Woods, pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Alex Blake, multi-percussionist George Gray and the leader on trumpet. Mr. Rutledge always comes ready to bring the fire and with this band, there is no doubt he will.
