On Saturday, August 20th we present the Reggie Woods Band featuring Reggie Woods (Bandleader & Sax), Anthony Wonsey (Piano), Jason Patterson (Drums), Jerry Brooks (Bass), Steve Horton (Guitar), Gil Defay (Trumpet), Latrice Cherry (Vocals), Shakim (Vocals), RJ Woods (Vocals), and Drew Woods (Rapper). Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 21st season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 9 and 10:30pm, saxophonist/composer/bandleader Reggie Woods will present a Tribute to the great composer/pianist Billy Strayhorn. The band will feature trumpeter Riley Mullins, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Eric Wheeler and drummer Masahiro Sakuma.

Reggie Woods always brings interesting projects to Sistas’ Place. This Saturday promises to be another special one. The music of Billy Strayhorn, like the music of his alter ego, Duke Ellington, is the essence of Jazz: A Music of the Spirit. Strayhorn’s compositions like Take the A Train and Lush Life are Jazz standards. Mr.Woods has chosen some brilliant musicians to perform this music alongside of him.
