Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 22nd season with the music of Resistance, Resilience, and Resurgence.

On Saturday, April 28th at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our April Jazz Appreciation Month/Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival with cellist, composer, vocalist, bandleader, educator Akua Dixon.  Ms. Dixon will lead a Quartet that features guitarist Freddie Bryant, bassist Noah Jackson, and drummer Orion Turre. It is always an honor to bring this masterful and magnificent Sista back to our venue. Over the years she has led bands and collaborated with some of the greatest artists in our culture. This promises to be a great Saturday night.

On Saturday, March 4th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we will have our first presentation for Women’s History Month with Akua Dixon’s Quartet featuring pianist/vocalist Aziza Miller, bassist Kenny Davis, multi-percussionist Orion Turre, with the leader on cello and vocals. It has been several years since composer/bandleader Akua Dixon has graced Sistas’ Place with her magnificent presence and with this ensemble one should expect a night of great Music of the Spirit!

On Saturday, November 2nd, Sistas’ Place proudly presents the T.K. Blue Quintet featuring Wallace Roney Jr. (Trumpet), Dishan Harper (Acoustic Bass), Orion Turre (Drums), Alva Nelson (Piano), and,  Band Leader T.K. Blue (Composer, Arranger, Saxophone, Flute & Kalimba). This event is a CD Release Party for his newest album Planet Bluu. T.K.Blue, a multi-instrumentalist, forms part of a particularly delightful group that oscillates between classic and inspired Jazz, and a form of Jazz fusion that is both explosive and poetic, making it truly enjoyable” (Thierry De Clemensat, Paris Move, Sept 19, 2024).
