Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, is in its 24th season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, January 11th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we present saxophonist/ composer/ bandleader, Reggie Woods, along with trumpeter Riley Mullins, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Russell Carter. Reggie Woods, a regular in our roster of revolving artists, has put together a band of Sistas’ Place All-Stars who individually make sparks fly and who collectively light up the night. Make reservations and come early!

Sets are at 9 pm and 10:30 pm and $20 with advance reservations (call 718-398-1766). Tickets at the door are only $25.

On Saturday, May 11th at 9 and 10:30 pm, the 20th Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival at Sistas’ Place presents pianist/composer Rodney Kendrick in our final Tribute of the season to Randy Weston. Rodney Kendrick’s Ensemble features vocalist Rhonda Ross, trumpeter Rasheed Howard, guitarist Kelvyn Bell, bassist Lonnie Plaxico, drummer Taru Alexander and percussionist Abdou Mboup. Mr. Kendrick has the distinction of having performed a duet concert with the great Randy Weston and as well he performed an amazing rendition of one of Mr. Weston’s compositions at the memorial held at Saint John the Divine, last year. This will be his first time performing at Sistas’ Place and it promises to be something special. So, make reservations.

On Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Sistas’ Place/Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival with trumpeter/bandleader, Robert Rutledge, leading a very special band featuring saxophonist Gene Ghee, pianist Sharp Radway, bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Dave Gibson. Robert Rutledge comes out of Birmingham, Alabama and he always plays with the spirit, courage and hope that it takes to rise above any forces that think we are less than great.The week following this performance he will be celebrating a Landmark in his life, come celebrate with us…this promises to be another great Saturday night!

On Saturday, November 12th, at 9 and 10:30 pm we continue our 2022-23 season with Carla Cook and her trio featuring pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Lonnie Plaxico, and drummer Jarret Walser. It has been several years since Sistas’ Place has been treated to the mellifluous vocalist who is Carla Cook. She’s from the D, y’all, aka Detroit, where musicians reign supreme.

Camille Gaynor Jones has become a regular part of the roster at our venue because she always comes with passion, exuberance and with a joy that lifts the room. Don’t miss this band! On Saturday, March 10th at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Women’s History Month Celebrations with vocalist Tulivu in a celebration of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman on her Arrival Day aka Birthday. With Tulivu will be pianist Rod Williams, bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Mark Johnson.

Brooklyn born Tulivu is a local and international treasure. When she performs it is always on the highest level and with the rhythm section she has selected, along with the fact that we are celebrating one of the greatest freedom fighters of all times, sparks should fly.
