Lil Phillip’s extraordinary voice is heard every Saturday night at Sistas’ Place, singing the theme song. She traditionally closes out our March celebrations and this year is going to be very special with the Richard Clement’s Trio featuring bassist Donald Nicks and drummer Dwayne “Cook” Broadnax. Lil Phillips has been on the roster of Sistas’ Place for many years and she has closed out our Women’s History Month celebrations longer than we can remember. Another tradition at our venue is to open each set with the voice of Ms. Phillips singing our theme song which was penned by her late husband bassist/composer James Phillips. On Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 9 and 10:30pm, we present, It Takes Two, Lil Phillips and her Trio featuring pianist Alva Nelson, bassist Lyle Atkinson and drummer Malik Washington, plus special guest Frank Senior.

Lil Phillips’ voice has been a part of the spiritual environment of Sistas’ Place for many years and is heard by every audience in the theme song which immediately precedes each set. Our theme song was also written by her late husband, James Philips. Lil has consistently closed out our Women’s History Month celebrations because she is that wonderful.

Always one to experiment and bring new projects to our audience, this one on Saturday promises to be something really great. If I were you, I wouldn’t miss it!!!

Saturday, March 26th @ 9 &10:30pm, we continue our Women’s History Month Presentations with Lil Phillips and Trio in Tribute to Teri Thorton.

Sistas’ Place’s most special vocalist, Lil Phillips, has chosen Women’s History Month to highlight one of the sisters in this music who is definitely deserving of our attention; the uniquely expressive and dynamic vocalist Teri Thorton. Lil will be joined by a wonderful trio of musicians, pianist Ayako Shirasaki, bassist Lyle Atkinson and drummer Malik Washington. As some might know, Lil Phillips has a recording that we play before each of our sets wherein she sings our theme song composed by her husband the late James Phillips. It is therefore always an honor to have Lil Phillips grace our stage.
