Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 23rd season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence.

On Saturday, March 23rd, at 9 and 10: 30 pm, vocalist Charenee Wade, with a trio featuring pianist Oscar Perez, bassist Endea Owens and drummer Reggie Quinterly, performs. This week, the series titled Phenomenal African Sistas in our History celebrated by Phenomenal Present Day African Sistas, honors the Freedom Fighter/Writer Ida B. Wells. Charenee Wade is a product of the District 13, the educational district where Sistas’ Place resides. We are therefore proud to honor this Phenomenal Sista as we pay tribute the great Ida B.Wells

On Saturday, March 2, at 9 and 10: 30 pm, Grammy-Nominated Spoken Word Performance Artist Gh’ail Rhodes Benjamin with bassist Binky Brice present Brave Brown Sistas From The Front Lines, a collage of Spoken-Word Monologues and Music from the voices of Ella Baker, Winnie Mandela, Miriam Makeba, Ida B. Wells and Fannie Lou Hamer. We begin this series of concerts for Womens’ History Month with a dynamic presentation that will incorporate a glimpse of all the women being celebrated this month.
