On Saturday, May 14th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival@Sistas’ Place with the Andrew Lamb Trio featuring bassist Hill Greene, multi-percussionist Newman Taylor Baker and the leader on saxophone. It has been many years since this completely original saxophonist graced the stage of Sistas’ Place with his presence. He has returned with a dynamic Trio that is sure to sound like a big band. On Saturday, May 13th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue the Central Brooklyn Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Festival at Sistas’ Place with A Tribute to Leon Thomas featuring BluesWing, his last touring band. On Saturday the group will be vocalist Miles Griffith, guitarist Kevin McNeal, pianist Ian MacDonald, bassist Hill Greene, multi-percussionist Allan Mednard, and . Sets are 9 and 10:30 pm and tickets are $25.

Leon Thomas is totally locked into the history of this music in Brooklyn. He was the first person to perform at Sistas’ Place and the first person to perform at the East and his last concert was done at Up Over Jazz Cafe founded by the one and only Bob Myers. It is the right thing that we celebrate this master of the Music of the Spirit at Sistas’ Place at this time with this band. In addition, we will be celebrating the Arrival Day of Miles Griffith whose day is May 13th!

Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 21st season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, May 13th, 2017, at 9 and 10:30pm, French hornist, composer/educator Vincent Chancey with an all-star group that includes pianist Bertha Hope, vibraphonist Bryan Carrott, bassist Hill Greene and drummer Newman Taylor Baker, will perform.

This group performed last year and the music was as great as it should be with a stellar band of this caliber. It is bound to be even better this year. This is the last installment of the Brass Fantasy Festival at Sistas Place, so please don’t miss it!

Music of the Spirit will sustain you through the challenging times we are experiencing.
