Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 23rd season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence.

On Saturday, April 13th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, tenor saxophonist Eric Wyatt with his trio of pianist Davis Whitfield, bassist Tyler Mitchell and drummer Kahil Kwame Bell, will perform. This Brooklyn born saxophonist made his debut last year and returns for another engagement with a dynamic trio backing him up.

Eric Wyatt has just recorded a new CD titled A Tribute to Sonny Rollins. He will feature a few new compositions of some of the Rollins tunes during this performance. The CD will be released in July 2019. This will be a very special concert not to be missed!

On Saturday, February 18th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we present our 3rd African American History Month Celebration and continue our 2023 season with a Tribute to Roy Hargrove and Gerald Hayes, featuring saxophonist Eric Wyatt. The group Eric has assembled for this occasion consists of trumpeter Giveton Gelin, pianist Cameron Campbell, bassist Conway Campbell, and multi-percussionist Jordan Carr. Eric Wyatt is a Brooklyn-born musician who had a close alliance with both great musicians, Gerald Hayes from Detriot, Michigan and Roy Hargrove, from Waco, Texas, which is why we asked him to do this special presentation. On Saturday, February 24th at 9 and 10:30 pm, we close out our African History Month presentations, with a CD release event for saxophonist Eric Wyatt. With Mr. Wyatt, on his debut as a leader at Sistas’ Place, is what promises to be a very exciting band including the Bahamian trumpet sensation Giveton Gelin, and a powerful rhythm section consisting of pianist Benito Gonzalez, bassist Tyler Mitchell, and drummer Kassa Overall.

Brooklyn born Eric Wyatt has established himself as an important voice on the saxophone. He had the advantage of having a father who was a saxophonist and the great Sonny Rollins as another mentor. The latest of his five recordings, as a leader, is called Look to the Sky, and copies will be available Saturday night. Don’t miss this dynamic ensemble!
