Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, is in its 24th year with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, February 22nd at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue with our African American History Month celebrations with bassist Kenny Davis who will present a living Tribute to Jimmy Owens.

The musicians Kenny has chosen are trumpeters Jimmy Owens and Eddie Allen, pianist Luciano Minetti, drummer Jarrett Walter and of course, Mr. Davis on bass. This is a very important and beautiful idea of celebrating an artist who has done so much for the Jazz community and one who should be celebrated in the African American community while he is still on the planet!

On Saturday, December 14th at 9 and 10:30 pm, trumpeter/flugelhornist Eddie Allen along with woodwinds player Justin Jones, pianist Oscar Perez, bassist Noah Garabedian, and drummer Jerome Jennings, will be in residence. Eddie Allen, an extraordinary musician who has his own sound and approach, always brings it and puts together remarkable bands. With that, you should know to show up this Saturday!

On Saturday, April 1st @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we begin the Central Brooklyn Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Festival at Sistas’ Place with the Eddie Allen Quartet featuring pianist Misha Tsiganov, bassist Kenny Davis, and multi-percussionist Bruce Cox, with the leader on trumpet and flugelhorn. Eddie Allen plays with a passion that is exactly what we need to begin our Festival of Jazz: A Music of the Spirit! Make Reservations!

On Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 9 and 10:30 pm, come to experience the Eddie Allen Group in a Pre African American History Month Tribute. The Eddie Allen Group features Eddie Allen on Trumpet, Bruce Williams on Alto/Soprano Sax, Misha Tsiganou on Piano, Kenny Davis on Bass, and Jerome Jennings on Drums.

Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 21st season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 9 and 10:30pm, we present a tribute to the master Mongo Santamaria organized by the quintessential percussionist, Neil Clarke. His dynamic band includes trumpeter Eddie Allen, saxophonist Cleave Guyton, bassist, Donald Nicks and vibraphonist Bryan Carrott. Neil has played with all the greats including Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba, Randy Weston and fellow African Rhythms sidemen, Alex Blake, TK Blue and the late Benny Powell.

We continue our own eclectic festival for National Jazz and Poetry Month with another very special group featuring the music of the great Mongo Santamaria led by one of Brooklyn’s best, Baba Neil Clarke. April 7th marks the centenary of Mongo Santamaria’s arrival on this planet. He was known for developing an African Cuban sound within this music. One of his first hits was Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock. His contribution was establishing a sustained connection between the Africans on this continent and the Africans in the Diaspora. We therefore celebrate his legacy.
