On Saturday, May 27th@9 and 10:30 pm, we close out this part of our season of the Central Brooklyn Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Festival at Sistas’ Place with the Bob Stewart String Band featuring violinist Curtis Stewart, guitarist Kelvyn Bell, multi-percussionist Dwayne “Cook” Broadnax and the leader on tuba. African Liberation Day/Memorial Day weekend closes out this part of our season with the recently developed Bob Stewart String Band. This innovative father/son quartet, organized by master educator musician Bob Stewart, traces the role of the tuba throughout the African Diaspora and across generations as an instrument of liberation.
