Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, is in its 24th season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. On Saturday, January 11th, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we present saxophonist/ composer/ bandleader, Reggie Woods, along with trumpeter Riley Mullins, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Russell Carter. Reggie Woods, a regular in our roster of revolving artists, has put together a band of Sistas’ Place All-Stars who individually make sparks fly and who collectively light up the night. On Saturday, April 30th, International Jazz Day, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue our Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival@Sistas’ Place with the J.D. Allen/Brandon Sanders Quartet featuring pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Steve Kirby aka Obasi Akoto, and the leaders on saxophone and multi-percussion, respectively. J.D. Allen is a young master and he is a musician who is interested in moving his community forward. Brandon Sanders is a young master and he is also interested in moving his community forward. This is going to be an event that you will need to make reservations for, well in advance!

Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, begins its 22nd season with the music of Resistance, Resilience, and Resurgence. On Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 9 and 10:30 pm, we kick off our fall season with Chico Freeman Equinox featuring pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Kenny Davis and drummer Jarret Walser in Tribute to John Coltrane.

For this year’s opening, the music of John Coltrane will be featured once again, this time on the Arrival day of the Master, with this amazing quartet led by one of the greats in this music, Chico Freeman. The band is called Equinox which is the time or date at which the sun crosses the celestial equator, when day and night are of equal length (about September 23rd).

Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 21st season with the music of Resistance, Resilience and Resurgence. This Saturday, November 12th at 9 and 10:30pm, pianist/bandleader Anthony Wonsey leads a quintet featuring Steve Carrington on woodwinds, guitarist Huey Cox, bassist Endea Owens, and drummer George Gray.

Anthony Wonsey is one of the masterful musicians coming from the plethora of masterful musicians hailing from Chicago. Over the years of performing at Sistas’ Place, he has captured the attention of its audience while engaging in collaborations with other musicians. Last season, he led this really exciting group which we thought was terrific enough for a return engagement.  Don’t Miss This!
