On Saturday, February 11th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we present our 2nd African American History Month Celebration and continue our 2023 season with Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. The group features trumpeter Corey Wilkes and baritone saxophonist Alex Harding with the leader on multi-percussion. Kahil El’Zabar has created an institution, with this group, that has been in existence for 49 years. As a former president of the great institution known as the AACM (that is still in existence), he knows the importance of organizing and he has toured this group during African American History Month throughout its brilliant existence. On Saturday, April 29th @ 9 and 10:30 pm, we continue the Central Brooklyn Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Festival at Sistas’ Place with Ahmed Abdullah’s Diaspora Meets Francisco Mora Catlett’s AfroHORN with baritone saxophonist Alex Harding, tubaist Bob Stewart, pianist D.D. Jackson, African percussionist Roman Diaz, multi-percussionist Francisco Mora Catlett, poet/vocalist Monique Ngozi Nri and Ahmed Abdullah on trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocals.

This project was recorded in 2019 to celebrate the music of Sun Ra and two bands outside of his Arkestra, led by musicians mentored by him.
