Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 21st season with the music of Resistance, Resilience, and Resurgence. On Saturday, May 27th, 2017, at 9 and 10:30 pm, there will be a celebration of the 45th year of African Liberation Day with the music of Organ Monk aka Greg Lewis featuring trumpeter Riley Mullins, guitarist Ron Jackson, and drummer Jeremy “Bean” Clemons. This is a CD release event!
Organist/composer/arranger Greg Lewis, has just released a recording called “The Breathe Suite,” original music which deals with the principle of resistance to the forces that have attempted to render African people in this country and in the Diaspora as less than human. This totally appropriate and timely concert will close out this phase of our stellar concert series in which we have had some of greatest music imaginable.
There will be other concerts coming in June and July so stay tuned!
Our 22nd season opens on Saturday, September 23, 2017, with the Chico Freeman Quartet featuring Anthony Wonsey, Kenny Davis and Jerome Jennings playing the music of John Coltrane!
Music of the Spirit will sustain you through the challenging times we are experiencing.
