Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues its 20th Historic Landmark Season. Saturday, February 6, 2016 @9 & 10:30pm we present the first of a series of African American History Month Celebrations of the art form with educator/percussionist/bandleader Napoleon Revel-Bey, along with saxophonist Cleave Guyton Jr, vibraphonist Monte Croft and bassist Christopher Sullivan.
Napoleon Revels-Bey’s ensemble is called Nu Mo Swing. The particular aspect of the history they will present is titled “Al-Andalusia to Dizzy” which will provide a glimpse into the Moorish occupation of Spain and the resultant Music of the Spirit that came from centuries of occupation. This will be tied to its effect on the Africans in America.
