Sistas’ Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, where Jazz: A Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is our Weapon, continues it’s 20th Historic Landmark Season. Friday, April 22nd, would have been Charlie Mingus’ 94th birthday. Drummer Brandon Sanders presents a tribute to the great bassist/composer/bandleader Mr. Mingus, who spent some important years of his life in Los Angeles where Brandon comes from. Mr. Sanders’ dynamic band includes alto saxophonist Vincent Herring, trumpeter Freddie Hendrix, pianist Miki Yamanaka and bassist Eric Wheeler.
This is a very special concert that was postponed from January 23rd because of the one of the largest snowstorms ever in the northeast.
It was rescheduled as part of our festival and appropriately placed to pay homage to one of the greats in this music. Brandon Sanders has assembled a stellar lineup for the occasion.
